Ashwinee Kumar is a researcher in the LSTS research group. He is preparing his Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Paul De Hert focusing on the interplay between Blockchain Technology and the data protection law, in particular privacy impact assessments. He is currently associated with the EU H2020 project ALADIN (Advance hoListic Adverse Drone Detection, Identification and Neutralization) under the direction of Prof. Dr. Paul Quinn. He is a registered attorney in India and associated with the Delhi Bar Council. Before joining the VUB, he completed a Master of Laws (LL.M) in European and Transnational Intellectual Property and Information Technology Law in 2018 from the University of Goettingen, Germany with “Sehr Gut”. His Master thesis “Blockchain Technology’s Double Edges to the GDPR: What Liabilities a FinTech Service Provider Should Think Of” was the best of the LL.M year. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) from the University of Delhi in 2016. He is also an electrical engineer with a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) from Rajasthan Technical University, Kota in 2012. Apart from these full-time academic achievements, he has been awarded a postgraduate diploma in “European, International, and Comparative Law” jointly from the University of Lisbon and Indian Society of International Law. The Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies, New Delhi has conferred him its prestigious “Parliamentary Fellow” honor in 2016. Ashwinee research interests are in data protection and privacy, ICT laws, Legal Informatics, Comparative Constitutionalism, Human Rights, Public International Law, and Legal Philosophy.
